Make a Difference In The Life of a Horse Now
These are horses are loved dearly by our sanctuary. None are adoptable.
9 years ago at age 7 Flower was an active racehorse running races in his home state of Kentucky
Eu Bandolero they called him... now Flower
He had hurt his leg in a race. It then healed a bit but he most likely went out again too soo with a torn suspensary. It looked like a death sentence as they lead him off the track with rider on him to the side where they euthanize horses.
His trainer said no not this one because of Flowers sweetness and calmness he wanted to try and save him so he got in touch with a farm in K, they felt after 7 months of rehab with them he needed to find a home. There was still a chance he would need to be put down .. I was contacted and said "yes I’ll take him"
He was trailered from KY to a track in West VA to rest for the night, then came to NJ
The standing was so hard for him but they had his legs wrapped for the trip
He was thin when he arrived and the injury was still healing. It was best to be on the thinner side because of the leg.
I wrapped his front legs everyday twice a day for a year and had a fabulous farrier set his front shoes to help with the healing. After 1 year he was medically sound. It was said to be a miracle from vets and equine hospitals, he should never of survived this.
Now he lives his life out with his buddies and gets whatever he wants. He can’t be out with the herd but can be with one other horse. He loves to run, jump and play and he could easily hurt that area
He rather be without bugs, wind, and noise so he enjoys being loose in the barn and being with his people friends
He is on cosequin for his joints and as he ages may need injections to help with any arthritis that sets in
7 years ago this tobiano paint was in the kill pen. He was going to go to slaughter and was covered in blood.
When we saved him he was extremely scared which made him almost impossible to touch. However, with patience and love he came around to trust again.
Porter is now 23 and he is the herd leader. He spends the day grazing and frolicking around the fields.
Smarty Smile was at a Pennsylvania kill pen July 4 2023 when I saw him.
He is the son of the Famous PA racehorse Smarty Jones and was foaled at the same barn by the same owner. He too was a racehorse but unfortunately was seen as being just not fast enough despite winning various awards.
At 7 years old it was a shock to see him 200lbs underweight with a swollen knee in the front and back, and head shy.
We fundraised for his bail money from the kill pen, then had him go to quarantine for 30 days in PA.
After the 30 days he came to me and I couldn’t let him go.
He needed love, patience, and understanding after his past life.
He will stay at our sanctuary forever.
Eisenhower came to Heaven on Earth March of 2025, making him the newest addition to our herd.
He came from a livestock feedlot in the Carolinas, emphasizing the need for our kind of work.
He is a gentle and kind soul who still is fearful and in need of settling in but we are excited to watch him grow comfortable and come out of his shell.
